Back At It Again: The Outsiders, Vocabulary, Signposts, Compass, etc...

Good Morning My Lovelies,

Today is Monday, February 27, 2017.  It was very rewarding to see all those parents that came to conferences.  You all are lucky to have parents that care so much about you.  This week we will be looking at a different kind of analysis in addition to what we already know.  We will be taking a look at the vocabulary that our author, S.E. Hinton, has used throughout her story.  Vocabulary is akin to word choice.  Word Choice is important for many reasons.  Words determine whether an author is being literal or using figurative language.  This week, as we look at word choice, we will be analyzing literal words, figurative words, as well as connotation and denotation.   The words an author chooses to include in his/her writing set a tone for the piece.  Think of it like this, specific words are like the "soundtrack" of a piece of writing.

On a different note, our Mind Field for the week is on Freedom of Choice.  Michael Stevens does it again with an outstanding look at underlying assumptions.  We think we have free thought and free choice.  In many areas of life our choices can be swayed or influenced in certain ways.  From jelly beans to tea, this Mind Field will make you think about your thinking. And, as always, have fun and enjoy!

Love, Peace and Taco Grease,

Daddy C
