Elements of Fiction: Characters Part 2...

 Good Day to You All,

Today is Tuesday, October 4, 2016.  We started our week by reading a short story called Thank You Ma'am.  In this story there are two main characters: Roger and Mrs. Luella.  Thank You Ma'am shows a good example of characterizationCharacterization is an element of fiction that writers use to describe, show, and share the characters in a story.  Now that we have read Thank You Ma'am and have begun to learn about characterization, let's try and find out these two things together.  As characters, how are Roger and Mrs. Luella described in our story?  What do we know about them from what we have read?  How do they react to events in the story?

The TED Talk this week is a funny one.  It is all about a genre of theater called improv.  Improv is short for improvisation.  It's like making something up on the spot with no script and little planning.  Participants are given an idea, a topic, or scenario and then they let the scene play out.  I love improv, and have done some improv activities with kids in the past.  I'm hoping we have time this morning to try one together.  This TED Talk also talks about shared experiences and ends with the idea of play.  As we watch, see if you can spot what the speaker says about shared experiences and play.  Good luck and enjoy!

Sincerely,
C-Dawg

P.S. Remember, fiction is a type of literary genre.
