Analyzing Story Elements: AHA! Moments...

Happy Tuesday Kenosha Kiddies,

Today is Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Yesterday, we found our first AHA Moment. We have already been introduced to Memory Moments and Again and Again Moments. I hope you are noticing that the graphic organizer for analyzing story elements is the same for all of these moments. The only thing that is changing today is the text. Yesterday we read the first chapter of Esperanza Rising. Today, we will be venturing back to The Night Gardener.  In chapters 5 and 6 there are two AHA Moments that we can analyze.  Remember, AHA Moments, like Again & Again and Memory Moments, tell us something about the conflict or the theme of a story.  Plug in, follow along, and see if you can analyze the story.

Yesterday’s blog post contained many links that we did not have a chance to watch.  We will take some of our time this morning watching our weekly Vsauce as well as meeting in our Community Circle.  We will also be thinking back to RAFTS.  If we remember RAFTS, the acronym stands for Role, Audience, Format, Task/Topic, and Strong Word.  Our RAFTS today is as follows:

R - self
A - class
F - paragraphs
T - Describe a time when you
had to say goodbye to someone
S - emotion

Please add this RAFTS entry in the FRONT of your yellow notebook where we are collecting our writing samples. The TED Talk for the week has to do with mistakes and being wrong. It is one of my many favorites. We may not get to watch it today, but I will try to set aside some time to watch it this week.  As always, have fun and enjoy!

Paz Afuera,
Mr. C
P.S.  Don’t forget Memory Moments and Again & Again Moments.
