Happy Tuesday: Theme, Main Idea, Signposts, & Esperanza Rising...

Good morning Kenosha Kiddies,

Today is Tuesday, November 29, 2016. I saw a lot of good work on Compass Learning yesterday in advisory. Remember that our Compass Learning is about theme and main idea. For those of you interested in improving your grade with extra credit and extra practice there is another compass learning module called Theme and Main Idea 2. In this second module you may skip the instruction and guided practice and go straight to the quiz   We are going to revisit theme and main idea today in our mini lesson.  Theme is the message or the lesson and author wants the reader to learn from reading the story. The main idea is closer to the main events that happened in the story. This means that theme and main idea or not the same thing.  Remember that as we learn, work, and read together.

Think back to a lot of what I have tried to teach you all.  Most of what we do in the classroom is taken directly from Wisconsin State Standards.  This means that all kids in the state of Wisconsin are required to know, do and, understand certain things in order to be successful in school.  There is a standard directly connected to what we are trying to learn about theme and main idea.  You will be able to see the standard below, and like I said in the previous paragraph, the mini lesson will hopefully set you up to be successful when thinking about theme and main idea. As always, have fun and enjoy learning.
