Welcome Back: Community Circles, Compass Learning, Theme, & Main Ideas...

Welcome back my friends,

Today is Monday, November 28, 2016.  I hope your extended weekends were fantastic, fun, and full of good times.  I can't wait to hear about them in our Community Circle this morning.  This week's Compass Learning module is on Main Idea & Theme.  We have already looked at theme as a story element in fiction.  Theme is different from main ideaMain ideas are like the main events that take place in a story's plot.  Theme is the central message an author wants you to learn from the story.  These two things confuse a lot of 7th graders and even adults as a matter of fact.  Try to read closely and think while we read together.

Our Vsauce this week is on distortions.  It's pretty neat and I hope you like it.  Just like last week, I'll be using this Vsauce to make a TED Ed lesson.  That way, during our centers this week, you'll get to choose which one you would prefer to do.  You can do last week's Vsauce/TED ED on why we clap, or you can do this week's Vsauce/TED Ed on distortions.  I try to make the questions easy to understand yet hard enough to get to you think closely about what you are watching.  Remember, have fun and enjoy learning.

I'm off like a dirty shirt,
Mr. C

P.S.  Don't forget that our learning community runs on appreciation, inclusion, and collaboration.
