Happy Monday: Notice, Note, & Story Elements...

 Good Morning 7th Graders,

Today is Monday, October 31, 2016.  Happy Halloween dearies!  Hahaha!  May your Halloweens be spooky and may your candy bags be full.  This week we will be continuing to analyze story elements.  Last week, we spent some time exploring Again & Again Moments and Memory MomentsAgain & Again Moments are those words, phrases, objects, or situations that come up again and again in the story.  Again & Again Moments are clues that will tell us something about the theme or conflict of a story.  Another clue that we can analyze in a story is the Memory Moment.  Memory Moments are those points in a story when the author interrupts the action with a memory or flashback.  These clues also tell us something about the theme or conflict.  When we come across one of these clues we need to stop our reading, ask ourselves "why", and think about an answer.  When we pick apart these moments we are analyzing the story we are reading.

Today we are going to add another moment to our quiver of arrows.  We will use this new moment to attack a new text we are reading.  These new moments are called "Aha Moments".  Aha Moments occur when a character suddenly realizes, understands, or finally figures something out.  When we come across these moments in our reading we need to STOP, THINK, and REACT.  We stop our reading and ask, "How might this change things?"  If the character figured out a problem, you may have just figured out conflict.  If the character understood a life lesson, then you may have learned something about the theme.  In the first part of our novel Esperanza Rising, there is an Aha Moment.  See if you can figure it out together with me.  As always, have fun and enjoy!

P.S. Here's your friendly Vsauce for the week brought to us by Michael.  It may be spooky
